FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Huntington Beach Owner’s Guide
We stock and install FAAC-compatible weldments, hinge assemblies, bracket kits, and fabricated mounting plates for FAAC swing and slide gate operators across Huntington Beach, with most fabrication jobs completed in a single visit. Installed prices typically land between $280 and $900 depending on the part, the model, and how much of the surrounding steel has seen better days. You’ll usually find us in the driveway within one business day, and often sooner.
Here’s how most owners discover the problem: the gate starts sagging a half inch, or the opener strains against a hinge that has rusted through from salt air, or the post bracket that holds the FAAC piston finally snaps after years of pushing a heavy gate. The operator itself is usually fine. The steel around it is what gave up first.
Key takeaways:
- We fabricate FAAC-specific mounting brackets, hinge plates, and gate frame repairs in-house
- Most FAAC welding and fabrication jobs in Huntington Beach run $280-$900 installed
- We carry common FAAC bracket kits and raw steel on the truck for near-immediate repairs
- Every job is quoted before work starts and backed by our written 90-Day Done Right Promise
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
We fabricate for the full FAAC swing and slide range still running on Huntington Beach driveways: the 400, 402, 412, 415, 422, and 770 swing operators, plus the 740 and 884 slide series. The older 402s and 412s are the ones we see most often, simply because they were installed here in volume during the coastal building push of the 1990s and early 2000s, and twenty-plus years of salt air has taken its toll on the mounting steel around them.
Identifying your model takes about thirty seconds. Swing operators carry a silver or black metal housing with the model number on a sticker inside the cover release, usually to the left of the release handle. Slide operators have the plate on the underside of the housing. If the sticker is gone, measure the piston body diameter: the 400-series runs a 63mm cylinder, the 770 is visibly larger. Getting the model right matters because FAAC changed bolt-hole spacing on the rear pivot bracket between the 400 and 770 generations, and a bracket fabricated from memory instead of measurements will not line up.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: FAAC’s original brackets are cast and coated well, but they are priced like imported hardware and can take a week or more to arrive. We fabricate from cold-rolled steel plate of the same or greater thickness, drilled to your hinge points, and powder-coated against the marine layer. For most Huntington Beach homeowners, a fabricated bracket installed the same week beats an OEM part that arrives long after the gate has been opened and closed by hand a few hundred times.
Ironworks Gate Co. is an independent gate service and fabrication company. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by FAAC, though we service and supply parts for their operators alongside LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and six other major automation brands.
Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side, leaving a wider gap at the top hinge than the bottom. This points to a hinge weld or the hinge plate itself stretching or cracking. In Huntington Beach, this accelerates fast once salt has gotten into the crack and started working on the raw steel.
- The FAAC operator groans or labors on every open, but moves smoothly when you disengage it and swing the gate by hand. That tells us the operator is fighting a bent or seized mounting point, not a motor problem. The fabricated bracket has warped or the hinge has bound up.
- You can see daylight through a crack running up the gate frame near the operator mount. Wrought-iron gates flex with every cycle, and a crack at the stress point where the piston pushes is a classic fatigue failure. It will only grow.
- The gate travels past its stop and bounces, or the opener makes a metallic clunk at the end of each stroke. The fabricated stop plate or limit bracket has loosened or broken away. The operator does not know the gate has arrived, so it keeps driving.
- You find rust flakes or orange staining below the hinge leaves after a rain. The hinge is rusting from the inside out. What you see on the surface is maybe half of what is actually gone. Victor Salinas grew up in Huntington Harbour and will tell you the salt air does not negotiate with painted-over steel.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Fair installed pricing in Huntington Beach for FAAC welding and fabrication work breaks down like this:
- Replacement hinge plates (pair), fabricated and welded: $280-$450
- FAAC rear piston bracket, fabricated and installed: $220-$380
- Gate frame crack repair, welded and reinforced: $180-$320 per stress point
- Slide gate track bracket or stop plate, fabricated: $240-$400
- Complete gate re-hang with new fabricated hinges and operator remount: $650-$900
Every quote includes the full installed price: steel, fabrication time, welding consumables, coating, labor, and cleanup. The range comes down to three things: how thick the steel needs to be, how much the gate weighs, and whether we are repairing in place or removing the gate leaf to work on it properly. We do not hand you a parts-only number and then surprise you with labor. The price is settled before a single bolt is turned, and every fabricated part and weld is covered by our written 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it is not right, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely check yourself: the gap between gate and post at the hinge line, any visible cracks or rust bleeding around welds, and whether the operator mount looks square. Wipe down the hinges, take photos with a tape measure in frame, and call us. That kind of information cuts diagnosis time in half.
What you should not do yourself: cut, grind, or weld on a gate that holds tension. A swing gate leaf weighs hundreds of pounds, and when a compromised hinge or bracket lets go mid-repair, it does not ask permission. Welding gates also requires knowing where the operator power and limit wiring runs, because you can fry a perfectly good FAAC control board by striking an arc near unshielded low-voltage lines. Disconnect the operator, support the gate leaf, and let a trained fabricator with the right jigs and a proper welding setup do the structural work. That is the job.

FAQs
Properly fabricated and powder-coated steel hinges and brackets should give you 15 to 20 years in the Huntington Beach salt-air environment, provided the gate is not overloaded beyond the operator’s rating and the hinges get a quick rinse a few times a year.
In almost every case, yes. A clean crack at a stress point can be gouged, welded, and reinforced with a gusset plate, and the repair will outlast the original steel. If the crack has propagated through more than about a third of the tube’s cross-section, we will recommend sectioning in fresh steel rather than chasing rust from both ends.
Most single-bracket or hinge repairs are completed in one visit of two to three hours, and we carry common FAAC bracket stock on the truck. Full gate re-hangs and fabricated repair plates requiring measurement, cutting, and coating are usually scheduled within a few days with the price settled before we start.
We stock raw steel in the thicknesses FAAC gates and operators call for, along with common rear pivot and hinge patterns for 400-series operators. For anything more specialized, we fabricate it in our shop from your gate’s measurements, which is often faster than waiting on a shipped OEM part.
